About Atar
Atar is the capital of the Adrar region and the mandatory base for exploring Mauritania's Sahara: 4x4 or camel excursions to Chinguetti, Ouadane and the Terjit oasis are organized here, and travelers stock up on fuel and water before heading into areas with no services for hundreds of kilometers. It has the most important airport in the interior of the country, with direct flights from Nouakchott.
