About Stone Town (Zanzibar)
Stone Town needs 3 days: its maze of Swahili-Arab architecture alleyways on one, and its nearby white sand beaches for the rest. June-October is the dry season. It's cheaper than Zanzibar's more touristy beaches. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unique fusion of African, Arab, Persian, Indian and European influences, the result of having been the most important trading center in the western Indian Ocean for centuries, including a historical past as one of East Africa's largest slave markets.
