About Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Ziwa is the only place in Uganda where you can see a rhino in the wild: white rhinos went extinct in the country due to poaching in the 1980s, and this private sanctuary reintroduced them from Kenya and the US starting in 2005, with a successful breeding program. Unlike a safari drive, here you walk on foot with a ranger to approach a group of rhinos grazing in the open — the only way to complete the 'Big Five' in Uganda, since no other park in the country has wild rhinos. It sits right on the way between Kampala and Murchison Falls, easy to combine on the same trip.
