The Süleymaniye Mosque is Istanbul's grand imperial mosque, built between 1550 and 1557 by Mimar Sinan, chief architect to Süleyman the Magnificent. It crowns one of the city's seven hills, overlooking the Golden Horn with its central dome and four minarets. In its rear garden lie the tombs of the sultan and his wife, Hürrem Sultan.
