Selçuk needs 2 days: the ruins of Ephesus, with the Library of Celsus and a theater for 25,000 spectators still standing, on one, and the House of the Virgin Mary, a pilgrimage site for both Christians and Muslims, on the other. April-June and September-October avoid the extreme heat of the Aegean summer. It's inexpensive for Turkey. Ephesus was one of the largest and most important cities of the ancient world, with up to 250,000 inhabitants at its Roman peak, and its ruins -among the best-preserved in the entire Mediterranean- include the remains of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, today reduced to a single column.
