About Bodrum
Bodrum needs 3 days: St. Peter's Castle, built by the Knights Hospitaller in the 15th century with stones from the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, on one, and sailing a gulet (traditional wooden sailboat) among the peninsula's coves for the remaining two. May-September brings peak season. It's expensive, Turkey's most glamorous beach destination, often compared to Saint-Tropez or Mykonos for its international clientele. It was ancient Halicarnassus, birthplace of the Greek historian Herodotus, and its royal mausoleum -of which only foundations and scattered pieces in museums in London and Bodrum remain today- gave rise to the word «mausoleum» in every modern language.
