Hanoi needs 3 days: the Old Quarter of 36 guild streets on one, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum on another, and a Ha Long Bay trip for the rest. October-December brings the mildest weather ahead of the northern winter cold. It's inexpensive, among Southeast Asia's cheapest capitals. It's Vietnam's cultural and political capital, with over 1,000 years of continuous history, and its Old Quarter maintains the tradition of streets organized by craft guild (Silk Street, Metal Street) since medieval times.
