About Hallstatt
Hallstatt is a one-day visit: the village by its namesake lake, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is walkable in a couple of hours, plus the world's oldest salt mine (over 7,000 years of mining) on the mountain above it. May-September is best for the Skywalk viewpoint and a fog-free lake. It's expensive for its size, with limited lodging that fills up fast in high season. It's one of the most photographed villages in the world -so much so that the local government has capped daily tourist numbers- and it partly inspired a village in Disney's «Frozen».
