About Dinant
Dinant needs 1 day: the citadel atop a vertical crag by the Meuse River, reached by cable car, and the Gothic Collegiate Church with its distinctive bulbous tower, on the same walk. April-September is best for a kayak trip along the Meuse. It's cheaper than Bruges or Brussels. It's the birthplace of the saxophone -its inventor, Adolphe Sax, was born here in 1814, with a statue and museum dedicated to him- and its dramatic profile, wedged between the river and a cliff, makes it one of Belgium's lesser-known but most photogenic postcards.
