About Annecy
Annecy needs 2 days: the old town's canals, with flower-covered facades and the Palais de l'Isle -a former prison on a tiny islet in the middle of the canal- on one, and a full day at Lake Annecy, considered one of Europe's cleanest, with the Alps as a backdrop, on the other. May-September is best for the lake. It's mid-to-high priced by French standards. Nicknamed the «Venice of the Alps» for its canals, it was for centuries part of the House of Savoy's territories before joining France in 1860.
