About Bonifacio
Bonifacio takes 1 day to see: the Genoese citadel on 70-meter limestone cliffs dropping straight into the sea, with views as far as Sardinia on clear days, is the main reason to visit, complemented by a boat trip to see the cliffs from the water. May-September is best. It's expensive by French standards. It was founded by the Republic of Genoa in the 9th century and kept its own identity and even its own dialect for centuries -Bonifacino, of Genoese roots- distinct from the rest of Corsica.
