Saint-Émilion needs 1 day: touring the Monolithic Church, carved from a single block of limestone between the 9th and 12th centuries -one of the largest of its kind in Europe-, in the morning, and visiting one of the wineries on the edge of the village, in the afternoon. April-October brings the mildest weather for vineyard visits. It's mid-to-upper priced due to wine tourism. The whole village and its surrounding vineyard have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999 -the first wine-growing landscape to receive that distinction-, and its limestone houses, quarried from the same stone that shaped the church, sit above a labyrinth of underground tunnels beneath the village.
