Sarlat-la-Caneda

Sarlat-la-Canéda takes 1 day to see: the golden-stone medieval old town, with Place de la Liberté and its Saturday market considered one of the most important in France, is the center of the visit. April-October is best, with the market at its liveliest. It's mid-to-high priced by French standards, the gastronomic capital of Périgord foie gras and black truffles. Its old town is so well preserved -no visible cables or antennas- that it became a regular filming location for period films, including «The Visitors» and «Chocolat».
