Würzburg needs 1 day: the Residence, a Baroque palace with the largest painted ceiling fresco in the world, by Tiepolo, in a morning walk, and the Old Main Bridge, traditionally strolled with a glass of Franconian wine at sunset, in the afternoon. April-October is best. It's mid-priced by German standards. Its Residence has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981, and the city is the heart of the Franconian wine region, with its own white wine bottled in a distinctive flattened flask-shaped bottle.
