About Celle
Celle takes 1 day to see: the old town, with over 400 well-preserved half-timbered houses -one of Germany's largest concentrations-, and Celle Castle, a former ducal residence, are the main reason to visit. April-October is best. It's inexpensive by German standards. It was for centuries the residence of a branch of the House of Welf, and its historic center, practically intact since the Middle Ages, escaped World War II bombing due to its low strategic value.
