About Stralsund
Stralsund takes 1 day to see: the historic Hanseatic old town, with red-brick Gothic churches and stepped gable façades facing the Baltic Sea, is the main reason to visit, and it also serves as the causeway gateway to the island of Rügen. May-September is best. It's inexpensive by German standards. It was a leading member of the Hanseatic League, and its old town, practically intact since the Middle Ages, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with that of neighboring Wismar.
