About Naumburg
Naumburg takes 1 day to see: the cathedral, famous for its founders' statues carved in the 13th century by the anonymous «Naumburg Master» -including Uta von Naumburg, considered one of Europe's most realistic medieval sculptures-, is almost the sole reason to visit. April-October is best. It's inexpensive by German standards. Its cathedral was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018, and the realism of its figures -with expressions and postures that look like portraits of real people rather than the idealized depictions typical of the era- still surprises art historians.
