Quedlinburg takes 1 day to see: over 1,300 half-timbered (Fachwerk) houses spanning six centuries, packed into a historic center declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994, along with the Castle and the Collegiate Church of St. Servatius. May-September has the best weather. It's cheap compared to other German UNESCO destinations, being off the main tourist routes. It's the largest concentration of half-timbered architecture in the world, with examples spanning the 14th to 19th centuries in the same town center, something no other German city preserves at this scale.
