About Dresden
Dresden needs 2 days: the Zwinger, a Baroque palace with art galleries, on one, the Frauenkirche -rebuilt stone by stone after being destroyed in the 1945 bombing, with the original blackened stones visible in its façade- on the other. May-September is best. It's cheaper than West German cities. It was nicknamed the «Florence of the Elbe» for its Baroque architecture before being almost completely destroyed in February 1945; its reconstruction, only finished in 2005, is one of Europe's most notable examples of postwar historic restoration.
