About Eisenach
Eisenach takes 1 day to see: Wartburg Castle, atop a hill, where Martin Luther took refuge and translated the New Testament into German in 1521-1522 under the false name «Junker Jörg», is the main reason to visit. April-October is best. It's inexpensive by German standards. It's the birthplace of Johann Sebastian Bach, and its Wartburg Castle -a UNESCO World Heritage Site- was also the setting of the legendary medieval singers' contest that inspired Wagner's opera «Tannhäuser».
