The National Archaeological Museum is the largest museum in Greece and one of the most important archaeological museums in the world. Originally intended to house the finds from 19th-century excavations in Attica and other sites, it gradually grew into the central National Archaeological Museum, enriched with finds from many different regions. Its world-renowned collections, with over 11,000 pieces, offer a panorama of ancient Greek culture, from the dawn of prehistory to late antiquity.
