Naples

Naples needs 3 days: the historic center (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Castel Nuovo on one, a trip to the ruins of Pompeii at the foot of Vesuvius on another, and the National Archaeological Museum -with the original mosaics and frescoes rescued from Pompeii and Herculaneum- on the third. April-June and September-October avoid the humid summer heat. It's cheaper than Rome or Florence, and the birthplace of Neapolitan pizza, with century-old spots still following the original recipe recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Heritage. It's also the gateway to the Amalfi Coast and Capri.
