Sorrento needs 2 days: touring the historic center and Piazza Tasso on one, and heading down to Marina Grande, the fishing village at the foot of the cliff, with a limoncello tasting -invented in the area- on the other. May-September is best. It's mid-to-upper priced for the Campania coast. Built atop a volcanic tuff cliff with views of the Bay of Naples, Vesuvius and the island of Capri, it's the traditional gateway to the Amalfi Coast and Capri, with direct ferries and trains connecting it to Naples in just over half an hour.
