About Civita di Bagnoregio
Civita di Bagnoregio takes half a day to see: the whole village, on a clay-and-tuff plateau isolated by erosion and reachable only by a footbridge, is itself the reason to visit, locally nicknamed the «dying town» for the constant crumbling of its edges. April-October is best. It's mid-priced by Italian standards, with a paid entry fee to cross the bridge. It has barely a dozen permanent residents, and the erosion surrounding it -which has already claimed much of the original plateau- turned it into an emergency-conservation case study, funded in part by tourism revenue itself.
