The Vatican Gardens are the Vatican's private urban gardens, covering around 23 hectares (more than half the country!). Created during the Renaissance and Baroque periods, the gardens are adorned with fountains and sculptures typical of the era's ornate style. To visit the gardens you must book a private tour, as general public access isn't permitted. Also, if you'd like to visit, book well in advance, as tickets tend to sell out.
