The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of Italy's most famous attractions, known for its iconic diagonal tilt. The tower originally dates back to 1173 and was built over a period of 199 years, during an especially prosperous time in Pisa's history. Attracting more than a million visitors each year, the tower was closed to visitors between 1990 and 2001 for safety reasons. But after a decade of corrective restoration, visitors can once again climb it for centuries to come.
