The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam was founded in 1874 and officially opened its doors in 1895. The building was designed by architect Adriaan Willem Weissman and is located on Museumplein, alongside the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. From 2004 to 2012, the Stedelijk Museum underwent a renovation, during which the building was expanded with an additional wing, also known as "The Bathtub".
