About Cangas de Onís
Cangas de Onís needs 1 day: crossing the Puente Romano, actually medieval despite the name, with a cross hanging from its central arch over the Sella river, in the morning, and driving up to the Covadonga Lakes inside Picos de Europa National Park, in the afternoon. June-September brings the mildest mountain weather. It's mid-priced for Asturias. It was the first capital of the Kingdom of Asturias in the 8th century, the cradle of the Reconquista after the Battle of Covadonga, and today it's the main gateway to Spain's first declared national park, from 1918.
