Laguardia

Laguardia needs 1 day: touring the medieval walled town, with wine cellars carved beneath its streets, and visiting a Rioja Alavesa winery, such as the Ysios Winery designed by Santiago Calatrava, in a single day. September-October coincides with the grape harvest, the best time to visit the area. It's mid-to-upper priced, pricier during harvest season. It's the historic capital of Rioja Alavesa, the Basque part of the La Rioja wine region, and beneath its streets lie over 200 underground cellars carved into rock, many still in use.
