Comillas needs 1 day: touring El Capricho, Gaudí's only work in Cantabria, and the Modernist palace ensemble built by 'indianos' who returned wealthy from the Americas, in a single day. May-September brings the region's mildest weather. It's mid-priced. El Capricho, a summer house with a sunflower-tiled lookout tower, is one of the few Gaudí works outside Catalonia, and its Pontifical University, today a cultural events venue, was also built by Catalan Modernist architects for the first Marquis of Comillas.
