About Tossa de Mar
Tossa de Mar needs 1 day: the Vila Vella, the only completely preserved walled medieval old town on the Catalan coast, with 12th-century towers and walls overlooking the Mediterranean. May-September is best for combining it with its coves and beaches. It's cheaper than Sitges or Cadaqués. Marc Chagall called it «blue paradise» after spending a season painting there in the 1930s, and its combination of medieval fortress and Mediterranean coast made it a mecca of mid-20th-century European cinema, with Ava Gardner filming «Pandora and the Flying Dutchman» there in 1951.
