Peñíscola

Peñíscola can be seen in a day: the walled old town, with the Papa Luna Castle overlooking the sea, can be fully covered in a few hours. May-September is the best window to combine the town with its fine sandy beaches. Prices are affordable, lower than the Costa del Sol or the Balearics for a destination with comparable views. Its castle appeared in Game of Thrones (as the fortress of Meereen), but its real trademark is the silhouette of the whole town perched on a rocky outcrop jutting into the sea, almost an island joined to land by a sandy isthmus.
