Birmingham needs 2 days: the Jewellery Quarter, a historic district with over 100 jewelry workshops still operating, on one, and Cadbury World, the country's most-visited chocolate factory museum, on the other. April-October is best. It's inexpensive by British standards. It's England's second most populous city, has more miles of navigable canals than Venice (a legacy of its industrial past), and is the birthplace of heavy metal, with Black Sabbath as its most famous band.
