About Saint John's
Saint John's needs 3 days: Nelson's Dockyard in English Harbour, the world's only still-functioning Georgian-era dockyard, on one, and touring some of Antigua's 365 beaches -one for every day of the year, according to local lore- for the rest. December-April is best. It's mid-to-high priced, geared toward cruise and high-end nautical tourism. It was a key British Empire naval base in the Caribbean in the 18th century, commanded by Horatio Nelson, and its restored dockyard -a UNESCO World Heritage Site- remains an active marina today, home to the Antigua Sailing Week regatta.
