About St. John's
St. John's needs 2 days: the row of colorful houses known as Jellybean Row downtown, on one, and Signal Hill, where Marconi received the first transatlantic radio signal in 1901, with Atlantic views and possible whales or icebergs in the background, on the other. June-September brings the best weather, also coinciding with iceberg and humpback whale season. It's mid-priced for Canada. It's one of the oldest cities in North America, with documented European fishing presence since the 16th century, and its geographic position makes it the closest inhabited point to Europe on the entire continent, closer to Ireland than to much of mainland Canada.
