About Charlottetown
Charlottetown needs 2 days: the historic center where Canada's founding agreement was signed in 1864, on one, and an excursion to Green Gables Heritage Place, the farm that inspired the novel «Anne of Green Gables», on the other. June-September brings the mildest weather. It's inexpensive by Canadian standards. It's known as the «Birthplace of Confederation» for hosting the 1864 conference that originated the union of Canadian provinces, and the whole island lives off the literary legacy of Lucy Maud Montgomery, whose 1908 novel still draws tourists -especially from Japan, where it's assigned school reading- to its red sandstone cliffs.
