Guatemala City needs a day: the historic center and the Plaza de la Constitución are the main stops, though many travelers use it only as a stopover en route to Antigua or Lake Atitlán. November-April is the recommended dry season. It's cheaper than Antigua Guatemala. It's the largest city in Central America, with a more chaotic, less touristy urban profile than its colonial neighbor Antigua, functioning mainly as the air gateway to the rest of the country.
