About Chichicastenango
Chichicastenango needs a day, ideally on Thursday or Sunday, when its famous indigenous market takes place, one of the largest and most colorful in Central America. November-April is the recommended dry season. It's inexpensive, with affordable, negotiable market prices. Its market, which combines commerce with Maya religious rituals in front of the Santo Tomás church (where copal and incense are still burned on the steps), is one of the most authentic living expressions of Maya-Catholic syncretism in all of Guatemala.
