Antigua Guatemala needs 2 days: the colonial center (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and its church ruins on one, and a trip to Pacaya volcano (active, with hiking close to the lava) on the other. November-April is the dry season, ideal for walking its cobblestone streets. It's among Guatemala's most expensive cities for tourists, reflecting its status as its most established destination. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Guatemala during colonial times until earthquakes destroyed it in 1773, leaving Baroque church ruins that today coexist with the rebuilt city, surrounded by three volcanoes.
