About Montgomery
Montgomery needs 1 day: visiting the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, the country's first monument dedicated to victims of racial lynching, and touring the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, where Martin Luther King Jr. was pastor between 1954 and 1960, the same afternoon. April-June and September-October bring the mildest weather. It's inexpensive for a state capital. It was the Confederacy's first capital in 1861 before moving to Richmond, and also the place where Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat in 1955, an act that triggered the Montgomery bus boycott and launched Martin Luther King Jr.'s leadership.
