Founded in 1927 as a simple citrus grove, Flamingo Gardens is now home to more than 3,000 plant species and a wildlife sanctuary. Located west of Fort Lauderdale in South Florida, the gardens surround the historic Wray family home, now a museum open to the public. Across 60 acres (24 hectares) of grounds, visitors can explore rainforest and wetland areas, admire some of Florida's largest trees, and, of course, enjoy the company of the flamingos.
