About Detroit
Detroit needs 1 day: touring the Museum of Illusions, with over 70 interactive exhibits, and visiting the Motown Museum, housed in the original house where Berry Gordy founded the record label in 1959, the same afternoon. May-September brings the mildest weather, avoiding the harsh Great Lakes winter. It's cheaper than other major Midwest cities. It was the world's automobile capital for much of the 20th century -home to Ford, General Motors and Chrysler-, and its industrial decline and later reconversion, with growing investment in arts and technology since the 2010s, made it one of the most cited urban renewal cases in the United States.
