About Jackson
Jackson needs 1 day: touring the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, documenting the movement in one of the states where it was most violently resisted, and trying African American-rooted Southern cuisine at one of its historic restaurants, the same afternoon. March-May and October-November bring the mildest weather, avoiding the humid summer heat. It's inexpensive, among the cheapest state capitals in the country. It's Mississippi's capital and most populous city, and its civil rights museum, opened in 2017 alongside the Mississippi History Museum in the same building, was among the first in the country to directly address the state's specific racial violence during segregation.
