Tandil needs 2 days: riding the chairlift up El Centinela hill, with panoramic views of the city and the sierras, on one, and touring the area's artisanal cheese and salami factories on the other. March-May and September-November are best. It's mid-priced for Argentina. Its Piedra Movediza, a 300-ton boulder that swayed in the wind until it fell from natural causes in 1912 -and was replaced with a replica in the 2000s-, was for over a century one of Argentina's most famous natural phenomena, and its cheese and artisanal salami tradition, inherited from Danish and Basque immigrants, made it a national charcuterie reference.
