Purmamarca is a one-day visit: the Cerro de los Siete Colores (Hill of Seven Colors), a rock formation with bands of red, ochre, green and purple visible from the main square, and the crafts market for textiles and pottery on the same walk. April-October offers the clearest light for photographing the hill's colors. It's pricier than other Quebrada villages due to its tourist fame. It's one of the most photographed villages in northern Argentina, and its 17th-century Santa Rosa de Lima church, next to a centuries-old carob tree, is among the oldest religious buildings still in use in the region.
