Maceió needs 3 days: touring Praia de Pajuçara, with its jangadas (traditional boats) that take visitors to natural reef pools offshore, on one, and the beaches of Praia do Francês and Barra de São Miguel to the south on another, leaving the third for the natural pools of Maragogi, further north. September-February brings the driest weather. It's mid-priced by Brazilian beach standards. It's nicknamed the «Brazilian Caribbean» for the turquoise color of its waters, the result of coral reefs forming natural pools visible at low tide just meters from the coast.
