About Guayaquil
Guayaquil needs 2 days: the Malecón 2000 (renovated waterfront promenade) on one, and the Las Peñas neighborhood (colorful houses on Santa Ana hill) on the other. June-November is the dry season. It's cheaper than Quito, with a hotter, more relaxed coastal vibe. It's Ecuador's main port and economic engine, and its urban transformation since the early 2000s (with the Malecón 2000 as its symbol) is considered a case study in urban regeneration in South America.
