Pitumarca

Pitumarca needs 1 long day: the hike to the Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), with red, turquoise and golden stripes produced by different sedimentary minerals, over 5,000 meters above sea level. April-October is the dry season, with better visibility of the colors. It's inexpensive, with the cost concentrated in the organized excursion from Cusco. It's the closest access base to Vinicunca, which stayed snow-covered and virtually unknown until glacial retreat from climate change exposed it only starting in 2015, turning it in barely a decade into one of Peru's most shared postcard images.
