About Taquile Island
Taquile Island can be seen on a day trip from Puno (a 3-hour boat ride each way), enough to walk its stone paths and meet its weaving community. April-October is the recommended dry season, though the lake stays cold year-round. It's an inexpensive destination, since the visit is paid as part of an organized tour from Puno, with no luxury hotel infrastructure. Its Quechua community maintains a weaving tradition declared UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, where curiously it's the men, not the women, who hand-weave.
