About Paramaribo
Paramaribo needs 2 days: walking the historic inner city, with white wooden Dutch colonial houses along the Suriname River, on one, and visiting the Neveh Shalom Synagogue and the Keizerstraat Mosque, built right next to each other as a symbol of religious coexistence, on the other. August-November is best (short dry season). It's inexpensive by international standards. Its historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for blending Dutch colonial architecture with an English urban layout tradition, and the country has one of the most multicultural populations in South America, with Javanese, Indian, Chinese, Creole and «Maroon» (descendants of escaped enslaved people) communities coexisting for centuries.
